Jay,

How I wish I stumble to your website earlier.
I'm still young still got loads to learn, but thankfully your advices reached me and taught me valuable lessons before I'm heading to work after my graduation.
Hope that you can constantly provide such useful advices and lessons that I can learn upon.
Thank you.

Thanks for the article, Jay. I agree with you that time spent with one's children is better spent than time at work, even at the expense of many luxuries. I also agree that the perceived "security" of a full-time salaried position is largely an illusion: it is safer to have a variety of income streams, if possible. Thanks again for the article.

I really enjoyed this post and would love to read more like it. I've been in these type of situations a number of times and it is often difficult not to be overcome with emotions. You offer some great advice here. Thanks.

Hi!
I'm french and I was looking on the internet for a kind of dctionnary of "corporate terms" that are used every day at work.
I found this article by chance and I'm quite astonished.
In France, most of "corporate words" are english. For french people, speaking english seems to be a sign of extreme intellectual superiority!!!
Really I was sure that this problem was particularely french as we use english words to please our egos, I couldn't think of english guys using french word to have a "dans le vent" behavior!! :p

Consequently, thanks for this article, I feel less lonesome today, and I will smile a little more knowing other people cannot support thoses way of talking!!! :)

I usually don't comment on blogs, but this is such a great post. The car analogy really put things into perspective for me. I noticed that I quite frequently try to make myself too available for others and in turn people don't really seem value my time. They seem to think I have all the time in the world, since I am not tied to a strict schedule and I usually don't say "no", because I would feel slightly guilty if I did due to that. This is something I will need to work on from now on for sure. Thank you for the great information!

I think that, for some people, working full-time is Plan A.

It is narrow-minded to think that everybody wants to run their own business or be an artist. Some people just need a salary so that they can live life - life is about life, not income.

I like the point made above: "one has to make maximum effort to gain the maximum and not letting your family suffer –that ought to be the key so job or no job".

What matters is not whether you prefer employment or entrepreneurship. The most important thing is that you choose a path where you can raise enough income to support your family.

Unfortunately, given the lack of job security these days, you cannot rely on a single job to support your family into the future.

Well written article! I will sometimes find myself in situations where I would like to start a conversation with a stranger, yet i don't because of the fear that they'll find that weird or they'll look at me funny. I wasn't always like this though, just a couple of years ago I could turn the most awkward social situation into a two hour conversation. I guess all this techno-socializing has had some effects on my ability to interact with people face to face! Your article is going to be my stepping stone into becoming the old me again!
